DISH// is a Japanese dance-rock band formed on December 25, 2011 under Stardust Promotion as a part of EBiDAN. On June 10, 2012 they debuted under Stardust Records (SDR) with single "It's Alright". As a dance-rock group, they shows a unique performance by dancing while playing the instruments.

They got their major debut on June 19, 2013 under Sony Music Records with single "I Can Hear" which was chosen as the 25th ending theme song of the popular anime "Naruto: Shippuden".

They announced that they has graduated from EBiDAN at EBiDAN THE LIVE 2022.[1][2]

About The Group[]

The group name "DISH//" was named with the hope "They want to be everyone's main dish". Being said that, they have a tradition to throw custom-made paper plates to the audience during their live performances.

DISH//'s fans are called //er (read: Slasher) - the two hyphens behind the band's name. 11/11 is (unofficially) called Slasher's Day, since 11 looks like //.

History[]

2011-2012: Beginning[]

DISH// is a group born/created by EBiDAN (Ebisu Gakuen Boys Club) which is a music collective made up of male artists associated with the talent agency Stardust Promotion.

At first they were just companions who performed for the EBiDAN theater, but after achieving the necessary fame among the female audience, demonstrating their talents and by decision of the agency, the band was created in September 2011. They were training and getting to know themselves as a band, and in June 2012 they released their first 'indie' single titled "It's Alright".

It was an exciting moment for the 4, since they were taking their first step as artists, and even though they did not have much fame at the beginning, they continued their performances along with the entire cast of EBiDAN, but they still did not give up and continued. working as a group, to return in October with a new single titled "Peter Pan Syndrome". Together with the help of Bullet Train (超特急 Chōtokkyū) they managed to further increase their audience. 4 months later they released "Give me chocolate", a sweet and tender song that raised their fame, but not only in Japan, this arrives also in different parts of the Asian continent, such as Korea, China, the Philippines and mainly Taiwan.

2013: Second Debut[]

On March 3, 2013 during a live event held at Divercity Tokyo they received the news that they would make their debut as professionals, with their first mainstream single titled “I Can Hear” which was released in Japan and Taiwan, on the 19th and on June 21, 2013 respectively. Produced by Sony Music, which was the ending of the 'Naruto Shippuden' series.

After that the group made an appearance at a “NARUTO” event in Taiwan on July 6. Following their activities as a group they managed to achieve worldwide fame thanks to this single.

He even performed in DENVER USA in 2013.

They continued their activities between concerts and individual activities, they published their single "Hareru Ya" on October 16, 2013, and on December 14 of the same year they released a curious single called "Itsuka wa merry christmas."

2014[]

On March 5, 2014 they released "Freak show" and 3 months later they published another single with the title "Saisho no Koi Motetakute" which contained "FLAME" as a secondary song that was a great success that led it to be the 29th ending of the Naruto Shippuden series. In December of the same year they released another single titled "Hengao BYE BYE."

2015[]

They were invited to the Anime Idol Asia event in Thailand 2015

With the necessary fame, it is announced that on January 1 and 2, 2015 they will perform for the first time at the Budokan Arena.

On January 14, 2015, his first album MAIN DISH// was published with 14 songs, in that same year he released 2 more singles with the title of "Yay Natsuyasumi" in July with a theme of the 80s-90s, which reached position in 2nd place in sales on Oricon.

On July 12, 2015, they performed the DISH// D//KIN SUMMER TOUR concert at the Tokyo International Forum. In mid-September it was announced that a new single called "Oretachi rookies" would be released in October, releasing their title track "Oretachi rookies" at the KISHIDAN EXPO on September 19, the full single would go on sale later in October.

2016[]

On January 1 and 2, 2016, the DISH// 4 MONKEY MAGIC concert was presented at the Budokan Arena, with 16 thousand attendees, it was a great success and it was announced that the band will have a venue again next year.

The DISH// 2016 Spring Hall Tour『D//RedBlue』has concluded in April this year.

On June 22, their new single "HIGH-VOLTAGE DANCER" was released and then an additional song called "WOW WAR TONIGHT" was released.

The band continues working on activities both as individuals and as a group.

2017[]

In January 2017 a new member called Izumi Daichi (ex-member of Cuztomi Z) was announced he would come in as drummer for the band.

2018[]

The band returned at the beginning of the year with a new single titled: "Katte ni MY SOUL (勝手にMY SOUL)" which was used in the Gintama Silver Soul arc 2018 series as the opening.

On March 13, it was announced that Kobayashi Ryuji has decided to retire from DISH//. According to the group's website, Kobayashi is not only leaving the group, but also terminated his contract with Stardust Records. The group will continue its activities as a group of 4.

On July 11, 2018, the theme "Starting over" for the "Zoids Wild" anime was released.

2019[]

They gave their first concert at Fuji-Q Highland titled "DISH// SUMMER AMUSEMENT".

On February 15, they participated in a music and dance cultural exchange program with the Chinese government and gave their first concert at the Bandai Namco Shanghai Cultural Center Future Theater.

2020[]

In 2020, DISH// was recognized for the song "Neko" published on the YouTube channel "THE FIRST TAKE" where Takumi Kitamura sang the acoustic version of it. According to Japan billboard Chart, by 9/2022, "Neko" has surpassed 300 million streams on collective streaming sites and continues to rise.[3] It is the song that allows DISH// to be widely recognised not only in Japan, but also worldwide for the first time.

Due to the confinement period, DISH// canceled several activities creating online dynamics #HOMEDISH

DISH// won the "Best Buzz Award" at the "MTV AWARDS 2020" event in November.

In December of the same year they also won the "Excellent Work Award" during the annual year-end music event "62nd Shining! Japan Record Award" for the first time in 10 years since their formation.

2021[]

DISH// restarts its live activities with the "SPRING TOUR 2021", the album "X" is released with the first musical songs written and directed by the members.

They returned with the theme song for the anime of Boku no Hero Academy 5th season, titled "No1", the MV has already reached 3 million views.

In November, the song "Shout It Out" was released, which was a promotional song for the movie "VENOM Let There Be Carnage" in theaters in Japan.

Dish// celebrated its tenth anniversary with the "DISH// 10th Anniversary Live" event where it was announced that at the beginning of the year the "Reblue" 再青 project, which is the remastering of its old main songs, would begin.

On December 25, DISH// held the two-man live titled 10th Anniversary Special Live「超特急×DISH// 」with Choutokkyu to celebrate both groups' 10th anniversary.[4]

Dish// was invited to NHK's New Year's program "72nd NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen" on December 31.

2022[]

The Replay song was released, which was a song produced for NTV Japan's NHK music program Minna no Uta.

DISH// officially ended its contract with the EBIDAN company, being awarded during the EBIDAN THE LIVE 2022 EBIDAN AWARDS event.

DISH// was chosen as an ambassador for the Japanese football team SAMURAI BLUE, using the song "DAWN" as a symbol of support to the players during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.

DISH// celebrated its 11th anniversary with 2 events held at Tokyo's Yoyogi National Stadium and Osaka Castle Hall, its first events at larger venues.

2023[]

On February 1 the group releases its seventh album: "Triangle".

  • Thanks to the single I can hear they officially debuted as singers.
  • 2 of his most famous songs (I can hear and FLAME) were used for the endings of the Naruto shipuden series (25 and 29).
  • They have been collaborators in advertising projects for the KitKat industry in Japan.

  • The single Katte ni MY SOUL (勝手にMY SOUL) arrived on the iTunes Japan chart entering 8th place.
  • Dish// (the 4 original members) have stated that in the beginning they did not know how to play instruments and "pretend" that they played while dancing.
  • Neko's song was a great boost for the band not only in Japan but in several countries around the world.
  • The song "No1" was used as the background theme at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in a volleyball match (Japan vs Iran).
